We participate in the Albany Basketball Association's (ABA) summer competition which runs from October to March each year.  

 

Expressions of Interest to nominate for the 2026/2027 basketball season have now closed.  Team lists will be released by the end of term three. For questions, email basketball.registrar@griffins.org.au

Season Information

• Junior Competition, please note the age groups for the junior competition this season:

   

  U10 - Born 2018, 2019

  U12 - Born 2016, 2017

  U14 - Born 2014, 2015

  U16 - Born 2012, 2013

  U19 - Born 2009, 2010, 2011

   

  The U10 competition is for players born in 2018 and 2019 only. For players born in 2020 and 2021 the ABA will be running the Aussie Hoops program in term 4. Registrations for Aussie Hoops will open early September.

   
• Team Numbers:
  Due to strong player numbers in last year's competition, the ABA indicated that team numbers may be restricted, that is, we cannot accept more than one team (8 players) per age group, per division. Therefore, Griffins Basketball will apply the following process/criteria for nominations:

1. 1. Previous season Griffins basketball player.
   2. Player or of a parent who volunteers to coach or is a part of our committee.
   3. New player who is a family member to our current Griffins Basketball community.
   4. New or current Great Southern Grammar student
   5. New player nomination
   6. All listed are considered in order and at the time/date of nomination.

Should a team be at capacity we will start a waitlist for each team. All throughout the process we will do our best to keep everyone up-to-date.

• Juniors playing in Senior Competition:
  Junior players wishing to also play in a senior team must first be registered and playing in a junior team. Players born in 2009 are not considered juniors for this purpose.  All juniors playing in the senior comp must be 15 years or older.
   
• Coaches and Managers:
  We need you! We cannot register a team without a coach and a team manager. Please let us know as soon as possible if you can assist. The Club provides loads of support, if you require it. Please email basketball.registrar@griffins.org.au if you are interested in volunteering.

• Nomination fee:

  The nomination fee for Griffins Basketball is $15. This is only refundable if we are unable to offer you a place on a team.

• For those that need new shorts this season, a link to purchase will be available soon. 
• Griffins is home to over 30 teams, entering teams from U10 to mens and women's competitions. Our home base is at Great Southern Grammar school, Nanarup Road, Albany. Most (but not all) teams also take the opportunity to train at this venue.
• Team training days are unable to be confirmed until coaches are players are allocated and all team preferences for a venue are coordinated. Unfortunately this is often at the end of term 3. If there are days of the week that you cannot play or train due to other commitments, we ask that you let us know at nomination stage. This helps ensure we accept the right numbers of players for each team.
